ADMISSION PROCEDURES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

We are glad that you are interested in applying for admission to Arkansas Tech University. Any student who is not a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident of the U.S. is considered an international student. In order to apply for admission to Arkansas Tech University, international students should submit the following documentation:

Application Fee: A non-refundable application fee of $50 (USD) is required from each applicant. The International and Multicultural Student Services Office will not waive this fee.
ATTENTION GRADUATE APPLICANTS: Effective July 1, 2008, all graduate applicants applying for admission for a master's degree program must include an additional graduate application fee of $25. All graduate-level applications post-marked after July 1, 2008, must include a separate payment of $25 . If paying by cash, check or money order, please send two separate payments, one for $50 and one for $25.

Academic Records: Students must submit ALL secondary, college, and university academic records as needed. All academic records MUST be originals or certified copies of originals with official English translations. Certified true copies must be certified (both signed and with a seal/stamp affixed) by a registrar, headmaster, or other official at the school where the grades were obtained. Notarized copies will NOT be accepted, because notary publics do not verify the authenticity of a document.
FRESHMAN APPLICANTS: All freshman applicants need the equivalency of 12 years of primary-secondary schooling; eleven standard years in the primary-secondary system may be considered. The applicant must submit official graduation academic records and diplomas or official examination results with official English translations and, if available, rank in class and the total number of students on the class. Please note that applicants who have attempted ANY college or university-level course work will not be considered freshman applicants.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS: This classification includes anyone who has attempted college or university level work. Please submit original academic records or certified copies with English translation of ALL course work. Applicants may not omit or withhold any college or university academic records that reflect course work attempted or completed. Academic records from overseas must include marks, credit hours per mark (indicating how many hours were spent each week in the classroom), and course descriptions. Applicants with fewer than 24 credit hours must also provide official secondary school academic records. Normally, a maximum of 68 semester hours of acceptable credit may be transferred from community or junior colleges. For full acceptance, transfer credit must average a 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) or better. Transfer credit is awarded on a course-by-course basis, and final evaluation of transfer credit may not be completed until after the student's arrival on campus. Transfer students are required to submit transcripts to an approved credential evaluation service for a course-by-course evaluation. GRADUATE APPLICANTS: Students who wish to apply to Graduate School must have the equivalency of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. college or university in an appropriate program of study. All undergraduate degree requirements must be completed, and official academic records must state that the student has received a bachelor's degree. For full acceptance, the overall undergraduate grade point must average 2.50 or better (on a 4.00 scale).
English Proficiency: Students who wish to apply for admission to the English Language Institute (ELI) are not required to demonstrate English proficiency. All other applicants should meet one of the following:
UNDERGRADUATE APPLICANTS: A minimum score of 500 on the written TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), 173 on the computerized TOEFL or 61 on the Internet-based TOEFL. Scores must be received directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). The school code for Arkansas Tech University is 6010. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores are also accepted. A minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or higher must be provided for admission. Students may also take any similar test of English proficiency approved by Arkansas Tech University at a site authorized by Arkansas Tech University.
GRADUATE APPLICANTS: A minimum score of 550 on the written TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), 213 on the computerized TOEFL or 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL. Scores must be received directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). The school code for Arkansas Tech University is 6010. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores are also accepted. A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or higher must be provided for admission.
Successful completion of an English as a Second Language program through the English Language Institute (ELI) or a site approved by Arkansas Tech University.
Evidence of Sufficient Financial Support: Approximately $16,492 (USD) is needed for one academic year (nine months) of undergraduate study. For one academic year of graduate study, approximately $13,338 (USD) is needed. Arkansas Tech University does not offer specific financial aid for international students, but all students may apply for privately funded scholarships. Certified evidence if the source (specific name of sponsors and relation to student) and amount of financial support must accompany the application. A current financial statement must come directly from the sponsor's financial institution. For undergraduate students, the statement must verify that at least $16,492 (USD) is available for the support of the student for two semesters of study. For graduate students, the statement must verify that at least $13,338 (USD) is available for the support of the student for two semesters of study. Deferral Procedures
Should you be admitted to Arkansas Tech University and wish to defer your admission to a future term, please notify the IMSSO in writing as soon as possible. The following documents are required to process your deferral:
Deferral Fee: A non-refundable deferral fee of $25 (USD) is required from each applicant. The International and Multicultural Student Services Office will not waive this fee.
Evidence of Sufficient Financial Support: Updated evidence of financial support, issued within the past 6 months. See above list for more details.
If you feel that you meet the requirements for admission to Arkansas Tech University and that this university offers the degree you wish to earn, please apply for admission on-line or print the application for international admission and return it along with the application fee and all other requested documents to address stated above. When all of the admissions criteria have been met, a student is officially admitted to this university. An I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 Students) or an DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility for J-1 / Exchange Visitor Students) is then mailed to the student with an acceptance letter, on-campus housing information, airport arrival information, and other documents related to study at Arkansas Tech University. First-time entering undergraduate students are required to take a placement examination for mathematics and English. If the student does not submit SAT and ACT scores, he/she will take a placement examination upon arrival. Full payment of tuition, fees, room, board and health insurance for one semester is due prior to the first day of classes.
